Father's Day - 2 September 2012

Wow, finding new and creative Father's day resources can be quite a challenge.  There are so many sites with Mother's Day resources but considerably fewer for Father's Day.   I have listed on this page a few links to Father's Day resources you may find helpful.

As you prepare to celebrate and honour the fathers, grandfathers and uncles who have played a significant role in the lives of their families please conscious of those who struggle on this day.  The families who have lost fathers, are unable to be fathers or those who haven't had good father role models in their lives.  As we celebrate fathers, remember and acknowledge those who are also struggling.

Father's Day also gives you an opportunity to reflect on how the men in your congregation minister to your children and share their faith with them?  Do they know the children of your congregation and share their faith with them in a "father-like" manner?

The Uniting Church SA has some a range of Father's Day resources on their Mission Resourcing website.  It  includes Intergenerational Father's Day worship resources, a complete sample service as well as some websites with other great resources.
The Children's Ministry website has a lovely poem that children could complete for fathers, grandfathers or someone in their lives who is like a father to them.  To get a little creative you may want to paste the poem (cards or pictures that the children do) onto ice-cream sticks and create a puzzle with it.  To see an example of this and the easy instructions click on the link for impressyourkids.org

Ministry to Children has some lesson plans, poems, colouring pages and activities that you may find helpful.
If you would like to make something the dads can use, these can coolers and mug warmers are relatively easy to make.
