Olympics 2012
Inspire a generation!

Inspire a generation!  What an awesome privilege we have in our ministry to be able to do this very thing!

Some of you may also recognise this as the motto of the 2012 Olympic Games.  Most children will be learning about the Olympics at school, doing Olympic related activities and almost certainly will have seen the many adverts on TV.  So, how do we make the most of the Olympics and incorporate one of the biggest events of this year into our ministry?

There are some great resources out there for us to use in the coming weeks and months.

KidsGames (www.kidsgames.com )is a childrens, youth and family ministry programme that can be used by all sized groups.  Registration is free and they have some great resources and curriculum.
You can also find some great resources on the Barnabas in Churches as well as  Ministry-to-Children.com websites.

Mini Olympics for all ages
(a resource from Cheryl Harray - Kids Friendly)

Last week I developed and used the attached resource for a Sunday evening all age service. You are welcome to use and adapt it.
It was an ice breaker before continuing the service with:
  • looking at Hebrews 12:1&2 and Nick Willis as an NZ Olympic Christian role model,
  • a Wheel of Fortune quiz about Jesus the perfect coach,
  • making individual medals in their families and decided what they were for (patience, manners, helpfulness etc)
  • a medal ceremony!
  • a yummy meal
  • children doing the Heptathlon again while parents chattedJ

2 resources attached:
PDF of How to set up and run the Mini Olympics Heptathlon (7 events)
A Word Document of the 7 stations and the score card.

Hope it is helpful and maybe sparks lots of other ideas too!
