TAUIWI YOUTH CONFERENCE 2022
KEY INFORMATION

What is Tauiwi Youth Conference?
Tauiwi Youth Conference (TYC) is national youth leaders training event for Tauiwi youth leaders of Te Hāhi Weteriana o Aotearoa. TYC brings together young leaders from across the 11 Tauiwi Synods of the church and offers them with the opportunity to Connect, be resourced for their own context and inspired by one another. For previous editions of TYC, click on the links below.
Who can attend and are their any requirements?
Tauiwi Youth Conference (TYC) is aimed at youth leaders OR people who work in youth ministry within the context of Te Hāhi Weteriana o Aotearoa - The Methodist Church of NZ. Each of the Tauiwi Synods has their own specific criteria and context which determines which leaders attend, however, some of the typical criteria are below:

 - Attendees are expected to be serving leaders or potential leaders of a Methodist or Union Parish and must attend with the knowledge of their respective parish and presbyter aware of their attendance.

- Attendees must 16 years of age or older - some exceptions made under the discretion of the organising committee.

- Any level of leadership experience is welcome, however with the expectation that some content may be more towards a immediate-advanced level leadership experience.

- Older, adult members are welcome to attend, however with the understanding that content and style of delievery is typically aimed at a younger attendees - bring earplugs if required!

- TYC is a space where the breadth and diversity of the church comes together. This diversity extends to cultural, theological and general understandings. Leaders must be mindful of this in the way they represent themselves, their church and family.

How much are registration Costs?
In response to a change in Conference model and the financial pressure many are facing at current, registration fees have been drastically reduced to the following:

For registrations EXCLUDING accommodation - $60
For registrations INCLUDING accommodation - $100

Registration costs cover - venue, workshops, lunch and dinner meals, registration merchandise and more.
Upon registering, you will receive a follow up email with all appropriate information.

If you are wanting to attend TYC 2022 but unsure if you will be able to afford these costs, please contact us here: Methodisttytanz@gmail.com
We do not want price to be a barrier between you and your attendance at TYC!
Where is TYC and where can I stay?
TYC 22 is at St. John's Methodist Church, Hamilton East. All workshops and sessions will take place at this venue, unless stated overwise.

In the past, TYC has taken place at Campsites, with delegates staying on site. For TYC 2022, we are asking leaders to find their own accommodation and travel to and from the venue each day for sessions. We will be offering limited Marae style options for those need assistance (at an extra cost) though these spaces are very limited. Please indicate on your registration if you need help with this.
What kind of workshops are on offer?
TYC offers a variety of different workshops. Workshops for TYC 22 are yet to be confirmed, however every year we offer a set of workshops which will cover:

- Pratical leadership skills development - both for the church context and beyond.
- Workshop streams - workshops relating to pressing issues that need to be addressed and contextualized within the context of the church. Past TYC's have seen workshops on Human Sexuality, Climate Justice, Mental Health, Third culture and more.
- Worship evenings, Devotions and Bible Studies - The foundation of our work is dependant on our response to the work of the Spirit. Youth-Focused worship and expression are central to TYC gatherings.

If I have work or other engagements, am I able to partially attend?
The expectation for TYC is that attendees will be present for all sessions and workshops. However, if unable, we are happy to be flexible in some cases. Please indicate this in replying to your registration email that you will receive when registering.
I don't know much about the Methodist Church beyond my own church. Will i be able to follow everything?
Absolutely! At TYC we create as much space for you to learn more about the church as possible and ask questions. Some past attendees have attended without even being aware that there are other language synods within our church. We are committed to assisting in making you more aware of the church you belong to - something that benefit you very much in your church context as well.
